McKercher LLP, a full service law firm with over 60 lawyers, requires a trained professional to fill a permanent, full-time Legal Assistant position in our Corporate Department in our Saskatoon office.

The successful applicant must be a self-motivated individual who is able to multi-task effectively in a busy and fast-paced environment and has demonstrated experience in the area of corporate law.  The position demands a high level of confidentiality. The ability to prioritize, organize and expedite workflow, coupled with the ability to work in a deadline driven environment, is imperative to succeed in this opportunity.

In addition to solid computer skills, we require a strong client service focus. The successful candidate must have the ability to work as part of a team with our corporate lawyers, other team members and clients.

To be successful in this role, you have:

  • graduated from a recognized Legal Assistant program (equivalencies will be considered) and have a minimum of 5 years experience in corporate law
  • knowledge of Emergent database program
  • ability to draft and maintain organization of corporate documents including agreements, resolutions, supporting documentation for sale and purchase transactions, dividends, amendments to corporate name and/or share structure, continuance and amalgamation documentation
  • must have an extensive knowledge and understanding of Corporate Registry and its forms
  • ability to organize and maintain corporate records to ensure accuracy and consistency which includes the preparation of annual resolutions, filing annual returns and reporting to clients
  • ability to deal with on-line personal property documentation
  • excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail
  • the ability to meet strict deadlines
  • strong computer and communication skills
  • exceptional organizational ability and accuracy
  • the ability to work independently, problem solve, follow instructions with minimal supervision, and take initiative
  • willingness to learn and contribute to the team

Saskatchewan Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour - Labour Relations Arbitrators

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour is accepting applications from qualified legal practitioners to be appointed as single arbitrators or as chairpersons of arbitration boards to resolve labour-management disputes associated with collective bargaining in Saskatchewan.

The Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour or the Chairperson of the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board may make appointments pursuant to section 26, 26.1 or 26.3 of The Trade Union Act, or at the request of both parties to a collective bargaining agreement.

Together with a curriculum vitae, applicants should provide information for the past five years outlining the total number of arbitration awards they have concluded; the total number of consensual appointments they have received; the number of different employers and unions that have requested their appointment; and any labour or management advocacy work undertaken during that period. Membership in, and training from, a recognized arbitration association would be a desirable asset.

Remuneration is to be paid jointly by the parties in accordance with acceptable standards.
