Insurance

The Law Society, for the protection of both its members and the public, requires that each member carry at least $1,000,000 of professional liability insurance.   To that end, the Saskatchewan Lawyers' Insurance Association (SLIA) was incorporated as a subsidiary vehicle for the provision of efficient and inexpensive insurance coverage through its membership and the Canadian Lawyers' Insurance Association.

SLIA carries a group deductible of $100,000.00 and members on whose behalf damages are paid are charged a deductible of $5,000.00 of $7,500.00 for missed limitation dates or real estate matters.  Defence costs are not subject to the members' deductible.

The Law Society of Saskatchewan is empowered by the Legal Profession Act to act as agent for its members in negotiating professional liability insurance.  In addition, the Insurance Committee actively works towards a loss prevention program.
