Are you looking for a lifestyle change? An opportunity to join a firm where you can build a career, with great mentorship and flexible work arrangements?

Carfra Lawton LLP is a reputable, established and busy insurance and litigation law firm. From our base in beautiful Victoria, we represent domestic and international insurers, institutions and government agencies throughout British Columbia and the Yukon in a comprehensive range of insurance-related litigation including municipal law, health law, personal injury, administrative law, human rights, employment practices liability, public authorities liability, coverage, property and casualty, subrogation and construction law.

Our team is comprised of over 25 lawyers, paralegals and articling students, all of whom are focused on litigation and insurance defence services. We provide our clients with the expertise and range of skills and experience needed to quickly assess files, identify defence strategies and progress a file towards resolution in a cost effective manner.

We are looking for a motivated counsel to join our team. Step into a busy litigation practice, with lots of opportunities to:

  • receive significant and meaningful mentorship from experienced lawyers at the firm;
  • practice in a supportive, team-based environment; and
  • develop long-term, productive relationships with our institutional clients.

We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a full benefits package, including parental leave benefits.  We offer flexible work arrangements and support working from home.  The firm supports our lawyers in cultivating their own areas of practice. We encourage pro bono work and other community service. We are open to hiring counsel either as a salaried employee or as associate counsel on an independent contractor relationship.  Fully remote work may be considered for more experienced candidates.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor of Laws Degree
  • A practicing member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia

 Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • 2 to 6 years of legal practice experience
  • Experience in insurance litigation, personal injury and civil litigation
  • A connection to Vancouver Island

All applicants interested in an opportunity to join our well-respected firm, please submit your resume and cover letter by email to the attention of Karen Orr at korr@carlaw.ca.

Candidates selected for an interview will be put in touch with one of our associates or associate counsel who can answer questions you may have about their experience working at the firm.
