Our client, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is looking to grow their legal services team and is seeking an individual that has a passion for litigation work who is interested in working in an engaging environment with an exceptional team.

OVERVIEW
The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is an organization that represents and advocates for the interests of rural municipalities in the province of Saskatchewan. We work to support and promote the needs and concerns of rural communities, including issues related to infrastructure, economic development, agriculture, and governance.  We are the collective voice for rural areas in Saskatchewan. We work to ensure that the unique challenges and opportunities faced by rural municipalities are recognized and addressed and we provide a platform for rural communities to come together, share ideas, and collaborate on initiatives that can benefit their regions.

Within SARM, under the Risk Management Department, is the Legal Team. Their role is to defend claims brought against our members who are insured under the insurance plans administered by SARM and, if time permits, to provide legal advice to our members.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a litigation lawyer, you will be working on a diverse range of cases primarily relating to Municipal Law. Your primary focus will be on civil litigation supporting SARM’s General and Senior Counsels on multiple files, with opportunities to work on high-profile cases that will challenge and develop your skills. You will work closely with our experienced team, collaborating on complex legal matters and contributing to the success of our members.


QUALIFICATIONS

As the Legal Counsel you will possess:

  • The ability to manage competing and emergent priorities;
  • Analytical problem-solving and decision-making capabilities;
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Strong knowledge of civil litigation procedures;
  • Tech-savviness with a proficiency in legal research tools and case management software;
  • Be a positive role model and a champion of what is possible;
  • The ability to build relationships inside and outside of the organization;
  • A clear vision that advocates for and protects SARM’s best interests.

REQUIREMENTS

 Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree.

  • Admitted to, and in good standing with, the Law Society of Saskatchewan as a lawyer.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in litigation.
  • Duly enrolled and entitled to practice as a lawyer and in all the Courts of Saskatchewan.
