Law Society of Saskatchewan DR UpdatesDR Updates Consultation on Direct Supervision Requirements

Consultation on Direct Supervision Requirements

November 30, 2021

The Law Society is advancing amendments to the Direct Supervision Requirements in Chapter 6 of the Code of Professional Conduct and we would like your feedback. Join our session on Thursday, December 9 from 12-1 pm. Lawyers and legal assistants/paralegals should attend. This session qualifies for 1.0 CPD hour, all of which qualifies for Ethics.

Passcode: 536153

The overall aim is to reduce regulatory barriers, while maintaining protection of the public, to help drive efficiencies in the provision of legal services. In focus will be options to expand the scope of practice and degree of independence for supervised staff. This can enable lawyers to charge less for services that are provided by staff, thereby increasing access to legal services and consumer choice. Join a session to learn more and provide feedback on the proposed amendments.

Who should attend?
Lawyers and legal assistants/paralegals. This session qualifies for 1.0 CPD hour, all of which qualifies for Ethics.
What if I can’t attend but I want to provide feedback?
In the coming weeks, the Law Society will launch a survey for more feedback and host a second webinar session on Wednesday, January 12. If you have any questions, contact Senior Policy Counsel, Pamela Kovacs: [email protected].

Where can I learn more?

Here’s an article from the Future of Legal Services Committee on better connecting consumers of legal services to legal assistants/paralegals.
