SUMMARY:Webinar - Signals of Trouble: Spotting Potential Decision Traps That Escalate Cyber Liability (CPD 451)
DESCRIPTION:Qualifies for 1.0 CPD hour\, all of which qualify for Ethics \nLawyers are often contacted after a cybersecurity incident is believed to be finished. Systems may be back online\, and the organization may believe the issue is contained. In many cases\, however\, communications have not yet gone out or have been sent before the organization has fully considered its legal\, regulatory\, insurance\, or contractual obligations. This stage is where gaps can frequently surface and where legal exposure may increase. \nThis session focuses on what lawyers commonly encounter once the urgency of the initial incident has quieted. Timelines may be incomplete\, documentation may be missing\, and early decisions\, particularly around communications\, may not be clearly recorded or may have been made without full advice. Clients may be unaware that regulatory obligations\, insurance conditions\, or contractual duties remain outstanding\, or that earlier actions may narrow their options going forward. \nIn some cases\, the root cause has not been addressed\, and the organization may still be vulnerable. Participants will learn how to recognize these signals of trouble early\, how to ask practical and targeted questions\, and how to guide clients toward steps that may help reduce further risk. The session emphasizes legal awareness rather than technical expertise and supports lawyers in identifying the issues that tend to matter most at this stage of an incident. \nParticipants will leave with: \n\nA clear framework for spotting early indicators of unresolved or escalating cyber risk\nPractical suggestions for distinguishing technical remediation from legal risk signals\nActionable next step considerations for guiding clients forward\n\nPresenters:\nDavid Krebs\, Miller Thomson LLP\nBrennen Schmidt\, ALEUS Consulting Group \n__________\nFor virtual activities\, registration closes one hour before the program start time. Materials’ links are typically available two business days in advance of the program date (subject to availability and where applicable). Registrations received within two business days of the date of the program may result in not receiving materials’ links until the program date. \nProgram formats and dates are subject to change. SUMMARY:Virtual Seminar - The Flourishing Law Firm: Strategic planning\, culture\, and succession for small and mid-sized firms (CPD 447)
DESCRIPTION:Qualifies for 3.0 CPD Hours. \nRunning a small or mid-sized law firm is challenging and raises big\, often competing questions. How to lead the firm while taking good care of the clients? How do we decide where the firm is heading\, and actually get there? Why do good plans so often stall in implementation? How do we find the right people\, and keep them engaged and performing as the firm grows? And how do we proactively address topics like succession\, leadership transition\, and the future of the firm before a crisis forces the issue? \nThis practical\, three-part session brings strategy\, culture\, and succession planning together in a way that reflects the real operating conditions of smaller firms. Rather than treating these as separate topics\, the program focuses on how they work together — and why alignment between them is essential for execution\, continuity\, and sustainability. \nIn this presentation\, you will learn: \n\nHow to create and engage your team in a clear\, usable strategic plan that fits the realities of small and mid-sized firms\nWhy culture determines whether strategy ever gains traction — and how to cultivate culture intentionally\nHow to translate culture into practical conditions that support motivation\, accountability\, follow-through and retention\nHow strategy and culture shape key succession decisions\, including whether you’re running a practice or building a firm meant to endure\nHow to approach leadership and lawyer transitions so knowledge\, relationships\, and momentum aren’t lost\n\nJoin Carina Bittel and Allison Wolf for a candid\, solutions-focused conversation grounded in real firm experience\, concrete examples\, and practical frameworks you can apply immediately in your own firm. \nAbout the Presenters\nAllison Wolf is a leadership coach and strategic advisor working with lawyers and law firms across Canada and the United States\, with a particular focus on small and mid-sized firms. SUMMARY:Virtual Workshop - Feedback That Lands: Communicating Clearly with Every Legal Brain (CPD 442)
DESCRIPTION:Qualifies for 2.00 CPD Hours\, all of which qualifies for Ethics. \nLaw firms run on precision\, communication\, and trust\, and yet many of the systems we rely on were not designed to serve the greatest number of people and their different brains! This results in missed expectations\, preventable conflict\, and talented lawyers who struggle unnecessarily or quietly burn out. \nThis practical\, engaging workshop with lawyers Alanna Carlson and Aaron Baer gives legal teams the tools to shift that dynamic. \nThe session will start with a clear overview of neurodivergence in the legal profession\, the current data\, what the research shows about ADHD\, autism\, learning disabilities\, sensory sensitivities\, and executive functioning in high-pressure environments\, and how neurodivergent traits often appear in legal work. Participants will learn to recognize common patterns without pathologizing colleagues or making assumptions. \nThe session will focus on communication and feedback that actually lands with every legal brain. You’ll learn simple\, evidence-based strategies for giving feedback that is specific\, clear\, and supportive. Aaron will focus on approaches that decrease stress\, prevent misunderstandings\, and improve performance for all lawyers\, not just those who identify as neurodivergent. \nParticipants will leave with: \n\nA grounded understanding of how neurodivergence shows up in legal workplaces\nPractical suggestions for delivering feedback that builds clarity\, safety\, and accountability\nA framework for improving team communication without adding more work to anyone’s plate\n\nThis workshop is designed for partners\, managers\, in-house teams\, HR professionals\, and anyone responsible for supporting or supervising lawyers and staff. You’ll walk away with tools that make your workplace more inclusive\, efficient\, and accessible for all. \nPresenters: \nAlanna Carlson\, Alanna Carlson Consulting (Saskatoon) and Aaron Baer\, Renno & Co / 4LAcademy (Toronto) \n___\nFor virtual activities\, registration closes one hour before the program start time. SUMMARY:Free Webinar - New Administrative Penalty Program (CPD 441)
DESCRIPTION:Qualifies for .75 CPD Hour\, all of which qualifies for Ethics. \nFollowing the recording\, Law Society staff member\, Stephanie Kievits\, will be available for Q&A. \nThe Law Society regulates the legal profession to effectively mitigate against the risk of the misuse of legal services for illicit purposes\, including money laundering and terrorist financing. A new administrative penalty structure has been adopted to address issues relating to several trust safety\, financial reporting and accountability rules. \nThe administrative penalty structure streamlines and enhances existing processes to address certain breaches of the Law Society of Saskatchewan Rules that play a key role in establishing standards of financial responsibility. Integration of an administrative penalty program supports the important responsibility the Law Society has to mitigate money laundering and terrorist financing efforts\, by requiring lawyers to know their clients\, identify red flags and manage potential risks involved with suspicious transactions and by imposing appropriate and proportionate sanctions if breached. \nThis recorded webinar was created to inform members of the new administrative penalty structure\, discuss the rules affected by the new penalty and ways for law firms to ensure compliance with those rules. \n___\nFor virtual activities\, registration closes one hour before the program start time. SUMMARY:Virtual Seminar - Drafting Proper and Persuasive Affidavits for Use in Civil Litigation: An Essential Skill (CPD 438)
DESCRIPTION:Qualifies for 2.75 CPD Hours. \nIn most cases\, affidavits are the key documents relied upon in Chambers and other Court applications. They provide the factual basis to support\, or respond to\, an application. Preparing proper and persuasive affidavits is an essential skill for every litigator. Affidavits are the means by which each party can provide the evidence necessary to explain to the Court their position and perspective on the application. Done properly\, affidavits will enhance the likelihood of a successful outcome for your client.
