From summary judgment applications to binding pre-trial conferences\, the morning sessions will inform practitioners of their duties when preparing for applications\, negotiations\, and settlement of claims. Presenters will provide guidance for running an effective pre-trial conference with topics such as preparing the pre-trial brief\, applications in advance\, and considerations around self-represented litigants and interpersonal violence. The afternoon will focus on effective documentation of resolutions using Interspousal Agreements and Minutes of Settlement. The sessions will provide drafting considerations involving tax implications and dealing with third parties and will discuss when to consider pursuing a final Judgment. Presenters will explore avenues for further resolution when the pre-trial conference does not result in a settlement\, or there is a desire to vary the terms of the settlement. Her research focuses on “anti-dominance” training which challenges the dominance dynamics of the settler colonial framework imposed upon Indigenous Peoples. He worked extensively with the Independent Assessment Process (IAP) preparing and representing peers and elders for compensation hearings.
