SUMMARY:Free Webinar - New Administrative Penalty Program (CPD 441)
DESCRIPTION:Qualifies for .75 CPD Hour\, all of which qualifies for Ethics. \nFollowing the recording\, Law Society staff member\, Stephanie Kievits\, will be available for Q&A. \nThe Law Society regulates the legal profession to effectively mitigate against the risk of the misuse of legal services for illicit purposes\, including money laundering and terrorist financing. A new administrative penalty structure has been adopted to address issues relating to several trust safety\, financial reporting and accountability rules. \nThe administrative penalty structure streamlines and enhances existing processes to address certain breaches of the Law Society of Saskatchewan Rules that play a key role in establishing standards of financial responsibility. Integration of an administrative penalty program supports the important responsibility the Law Society has to mitigate money laundering and terrorist financing efforts\, by requiring lawyers to know their clients\, identify red flags and manage potential risks involved with suspicious transactions and by imposing appropriate and proportionate sanctions if breached. \nThis recorded webinar was created to inform members of the new administrative penalty structure\, discuss the rules affected by the new penalty and ways for law firms to ensure compliance with those rules. \n___\nFor virtual activities\, registration closes one hour before the program start time. Materials’ links are typically available two business days in advance of the program date (subject to availability and where applicable). Registrations received within two business days of the date of the program may result in not receiving materials’ links until the program date. \nProgram formats and dates are subject to change. Prices are subject to GST. This program is being recorded and will be available to registrants and on-demand subject to any issues with the recording. We reserve the right to change speakers\, modify the program schedule\, and/or revise content if necessary. In the unlikely event that the Law Society of Saskatchewan is forced to modify its program schedule\, registrants will be notified.
