Court of Appeal of Newfoundland and Labrador - Law Clerk/Legal Research Officer

The Court of Appeal of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking a Law Clerk/Legal Research Officer. The incumbent will work under the direction of the Chief Justice of Newfoundland and Labrador and the other judges of the Court. In this role he or she will be provided with a unique opportunity to gain insight into the judicial reasoning process and to assist in the development of the law in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The specific duties of the Law Clerk/Legal Research Officer will include preparing bench memoranda, summarizing cases in preparation for applications and appeals, attending court to hear argument on applications and appeals, doing research on points of law or other issues assigned by the judges, doing research on Court policies and procedures and the Rules of Court, managing the court database of opinions and other legal research information, participating in meetings and discussion with the judges, completing special study projects, sitting on committees of the Court when requested, and such other duties assigned from time to time by the Chief Justice or his/her designate.
