Public Prosecution Service of Canada - Director of Public Prosecutions

Office of Residential Tenancies - Hearing Officers
The Office of Residential Tenancies (ORT) is seeking applications from interested individuals to be appointed as Hearing Officers to conduct hearings and make decisions on disputes between landlords and tenants under The Residential Tenancies Act, 2006. The ORT is primarily interested in applications from persons outside of Regina and Saskatoon.
Section 73 of the Act provides that the Lieutenant Governor in Council may appoint one or more persons as hearing officers for the purposes of establishing a panel of hearing officers to hear matters under the Act.
The monetary jurisdiction is $30,000 with the additional power to grant Writs of Possession. Hearings officers hear evidence, make findings of fact and provide reasons in a written decision. Parties have a right to appeal decisions to a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench on a question of law or jurisdiction.
Applicants should have a law degree, and provide a resumé detailing their experience in administrative law, conducting hearings and outlining their ability to interpret and apply legislation. Applicants should also include a sample of writing which demonstrates legal reasoning, and an ability to write clearly and concisely.
The ORT is going online. All applications and evidence will be digital in the online system. Hearing Officers will need to provide and use a laptop during hearings to access files and evidence online and to connect the laptop with a monitor or projector to display evidence during the hearing.
The current per diem is $425. Travel expenses will be paid if travel is required. Most hearings are conducted in Regina and Saskatoon. Hearings are scheduled periodically in Estevan, Weyburn, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford, Prince Albert and other locations if circumstances warrant. The ORT received 8475 applications in fiscal 2015-16, and conducted ~4000 hearings.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has posted a notice of ministerial appointment opportunity for review officers under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999. The governance and privacy specialist is accountable to the director business process solutions and is responsible for the development and integration of strategies, processes, systems and tools for a variety of institution-wide governance and privacy initiatives. A relevant post-secondary degree (e.g. business, law) with a minimum of five years of progressive management experience in the area of governance, policy development, and/or interpreting/overseeing privacy legal/legislative requirements is required. The Office of Public Registry Administration in the Ministry of Justice provides direction and oversight of the registry functions that are provided by Information Services Corporation, administers the service agreement with ISC, and is responsible for Government policy and legislative development relating to the registries.
