When you are assessing whether a client’s issue has merit, it is also important for you to make an assessment as to the value of the case. While some cases may have merit, the cost of obtaining the desired result may outstrip the value of that result.

To properly make this assessment, you must realistically review all relevant evidence and consider the legal steps that will need to be taken and their relevant costs.

If the matter will require more fees and costs than it can potentially recoup, you should candidly discuss your determinations with the client and help them make an informed decision as to what they can do next.
