12.13 – What Does Your Gut Tell You About the Potential Client?

Trust your instincts and experience. If a potential client is sending you troubling signals through their tone of voice, the words they use, or manner in which they speak, don’t hesitate to explore further before or accepting or rejecting the retainer. Remember that you are not obligated to tolerate abusive, threatening or bullying behaviour from your client. As you gain experience practicing law and working with different clients, you will be the best judge of which clients and files will work for you. If you feel unsure or uncomfortable, trust your instincts.
