Red Flags

Attacks and malware often occur silently, and there is no way to discover them until their unpleasant results occur. Fortunately, that is not always the case. There are signals which can be detected that will hopefully prevent clicking on an unsafe link, or doing anything else which might lead to infection. Over the following pages, we’ll review the following red flags that may tip you off to attacks and malware:

  • Typos and grammatical errors
  • Hovering over a link discloses a different address
  • “Undisclosed Recipients”
  • Calls from “Microsoft” or other providers
  • Password apparently not accepted
  • Payment in non-currency
  • Unexpected computer or device behaviour
  • Urgency or threats
