The Right to Know Week (September 28 to October 4 each year) recognizes the importance of the public’s right to access public documents through The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. “Right to Know 2015: Journalists’ and Government Perspectives” is a panel discussion hosted by The Right to Know Week committee on Wednesday, October 28 at the College Avenue Campus of the University of Regina.
An effective democracy requires citizens who are both engaged and informed. For citizens to participate meaningfully in government, both directly and through their elected representatives, they need accurate information to understand the issues. In healthy democracies Access to information promotes that understanding. The control of information is regulated for the common good and citizens have the means to find information held by their government.
