May 5, 2025, is the 15th anniversary recognizing Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness and Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People. Red Dress Day honours and remembers the women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people lost due to violence affecting the Indigenous community. It is also an opportunity to learn more about root causes and recommendations for change and to raise awareness and support organizations working to address MMIWG2S.
The Government of Saskatchewan has opened applications to a Community Response Fund “for projects that advance violence prevention efforts and foster safety for Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit people, their families and communities”.
The Government of Canada is hosting a virtual event on May 7 from 1:30-3:30 (ET) that “will explore the history and significance of Red Dress Day, the progress being made, and how individuals, communities, and governments are working together to end gender-based violence in Canada”.
There are also events being held across Saskatchewan to commemorate Red Dress Day and the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan has a list of events on their website.
