This webinar was created in response to the TRC Call to Action and reviews the role of reconciliation in the courtroom. The webinar provides an in-depth look at the history of Indian residential schools, their impact on survivors, and the role of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It also addresses common misconceptions about indigenous peoples. The importance of cultural competency training for lawyers and understanding the client’s indigenous heritage is emphasized. The evolution of the probation system and the challenges posed by minimum sentences are also discussed.
