The Ethics Committee makes rulings that apply the Code of Professional Conduct for Saskatchewan and the Law Society of Saskatchewan Rules to specific fact situations involving lawyers. The committee meets several times a year to review requests for rulings by the members, as well as complaints referred to it by Professional ResponsibilityCounsel. Matters referred to the Ethics Committee are those that do not appear to raise conduct issues, but rather involve “grey area” ethical issues that require discussion and application of the Code and Rules. Following the meeting and discussion, if a Ruling is reached, it is anonymized to remove identifying information, and posted to the Ethics Rulings Database for the benefit of members and the public.
