This is a sequel to last week’s tip. Since 1996 the Law Society Library has maintained a database of Saskatchewan Bills, which indexes amendments, status, and coming-in-force dates for all Saskatchewan statutes as they move through the Legislative process. You can search by Statute Name, Bill Name, Bill Number, Section Number, or do a keyword search of Justice Updates provided by the Saskatchewan Department of Justice.
So, if I want to know when amendments to the bylaw provisions of the Real Estate Act came into effect, I might try entering “Real Estate” under Statute Name, and “bylaws” in the Justice Update:
And the database provides information about the Bill, which sections were amended, and when the amendments came into force:
The Legislative Summary confirms that this is the amendment that affected the bylaws provision in the statute. There are links to both the bill and its subsequent chapter. By clicking on the amending act, S.S. 2002, c.53, I can find the changes to s.14, on bylaws. The amendments came into force on September 1, 2002.
Then, by performing the following search –
– I can get a complete legislative history of section 14.
