The Adoption Amendment Act, 2016, SS 2016, c 9, is proclaimed into force December 1, 2017.
This Act amends The Adoption Act, 1998 to:
increase the adoption revocation period for independent adoptions and voluntary committals from 14 days to 21 days;
modify provisions respecting the hearing of children in court, including removing the ability of the court to interview or order a report for a child under age seven;
require prospective adoptive parents of a child from a country that is not a signatory to the Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption to provide evidence that the child was adopted in accordance with the laws of the child’s country of origin;
authorize the Minister to apply for an order against any person not complying with the Act or the regulations; and
make other administrative amendments, including changes to requirements respecting payment agreements and the repeal of simple adoption orders and Family Service Boards.
