Jim Casey, QC

Jim Casey is the Managing Partner of Field Law, managing the firm’s three offices located in Edmonton, Calgary, and Yellowknife. His practice focuses on professional regulation and adjudication. Jim founded the Professional Regulatory Group at Field Law and acts for many professional regulatory organizations. Jim develops and regularly presents training workshops for professional regulatory committees and tribunals across Canada. He is the author of one of the leading texts in the area, “The Regulation of Professions in Canada".

With respect to his role as an adjudicator, Jim sat for 14 years as a part-time Vice-Chair of the Labour Relations Board and has an active practice as a labour arbitrator. He is the editor of the text, “Remedies in Labour, Employment and Human Rights Law.” Jim has served in many volunteer senior level governance positions in the not for profit sector, including serving as the National Chairperson of one of Canada’s largest health charities.

David Jones, QC

David grew up in Calgary, and studied economics and political science at McGill University and law as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. For 16 years, he was a full-time law professor at McGill and the University of Alberta. His subjects included administrative law, constitutional law, property, taxation, and government control of business.

Since 1988, he has been in private practice in Edmonton with the “cerebral microfirm” of de Villars Jones. He is the Conflict of Interest Commissioner for the Yukon and Northwest Territories Legislative Assemblies, and Chancellor of the Anglican Church of Canada.

He is a co-author of Jones & de Villars’ Principles of Administrative Law (6th edition 2014), co-editor of the Administrative Law Reports, and author of numerous articles and comments in various law reviews. David was the co-recipient of the 2009 Medal from the Council of Canadian Administrative Tribunals and received the 2012 Distinguished Service Award for Legal Scholarship from the Law Society of Alberta and the Alberta Branch of the Canadian Bar Association. His practice includes all areas of administrative law, commercial and labour arbitration, “point of law” opinions, and litigation.

Anne Kirker, QC – LSA President (2016-2017)

Ms. Kirker received her Bachelor of Laws from the U of C. She is a partner with Norton Rose Fulbright LLP and was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee from 2004 to 2010. She has been a Bencher since 2012 and is the current President of the Law Society. Ms. Kirker has practiced litigation and dispute resolution since 1992, and handles complex commercial and professional liability matters, insurance coverage disputes and class actions. She has represented her clients at all levels of the Courts in Alberta and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Anne has been consistently recognized as one of the leading lawyers in Canada in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and by Best Lawyers, earning Lawyer of the Year recognition in the areas of insurance law (2012) and legal malpractice law (2014).  Ms. Kirker serves on the Board of Directors of the Alberta Law Reform Institute. She has taught a number of courses at the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary and also instructs the Professional Responsibility section of the Bar Admissions course for the Legal Education Society of Alberta.
