Lawyers are working together to minimize the potential family law backlogs in the courts that may develop as a result of the pandemic by expanding their areas of practice to include arbitration of family law matters.
In order to assist lawyers in finding their colleagues who are engaging in this practice, we have added Family Law Arbitration as an “Area of Practice” in the Find Legal Assistance feature of the website. If you are a qualified lawyer offering family law arbitration services you may now log into your member profile and add “Family Law Arbitration” as one of your areas of practice. We have also added “Chartered Arbitrator (C.Arb)” and “Qualified Arbitrator (Q.Arb)”. With the addition of the three specified arbitrator areas of practice, “Arbitration” will be eliminated as an option from the listed areas of practice, so please update your member profile at your earliest convenience.
If you are a lawyer whose clients would like to engage in an arbitration process then simply visit the Find Legal Assistance feature of the website and search by area of practice (Arbitrator- Chartered Arbitrator (C.Arb), Arbitrator- Qualified Arbitrator (Q.Arb), or Arbitrator- Family Law Arbitration) to connect with a colleague who is offering these services.
As well, keep in mind there are a number of early family dispute resolution process options that are available as an alternative to traditional court proceedings, including the recently added services of a Parenting Coordinator. For a list of all early family dispute resolution services offered by the Family Justice Services Branch, please refer to their website.
Make sure your clients can find you! As many lawyers have shifted their work away from the bricks and mortar of their offices to a remote work environment, the Find Legal Assistance directory is an important and effective way to list your services and help connect you with those needing legal help during this time.
To ensure your clients and prospective clients can reach you, update your information in the directory by logging into your member profile. To make changes to your profile information, once logged in, select “View Profile” in the upper left-hand corner of screen to access your profile information. To make changes to the information select the “edit” or “add” tabs located in the upper right corner of each information panel. Your changes will be updated immediately in the directory ensuring that clients and colleagues can reach you in this time of physical distancing and remote work practices.
If you are having difficulty logging into your member profile you may click the “forgot your password” link on the login page or contact reception@lawsociety.sk.ca for assistance.
