On February 18, 2020, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Law Society of Saskatchewan will be hosting a webinar addressing sexual harassment in the legal profession. The goals of the webinar are: to increase awareness of sexual harassment in the legal profession; discuss best practices for preventing sexual harassment in the workplace; and to provide information to employers and employees on how to address sexual harassment.
This seminar is being presented as part of a new strategy to address and prevent sexual harassment in Saskatchewan workplaces called #EnoughAlready – Let’s put an end to sexual harassment in the workplace. The plan is designed and implemented over the next five years by a coalition of stakeholders consisting of the Saskatoon Industry-Education Council; the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce; Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan; CREATE Justice, College of Law, University of Saskatchewan; and the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission.
#EnoughAlready aims to dispel myths and misinformation surrounding sexual harassment, train employers and employees, and increase public awareness. Access to employment counselling will also be made available for people in Saskatchewan who have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace. In addition to seminars and workshops, other resources will be developed for employers, employees and the public, such as toolkits, a website and online training tools.
The federal government is providing $1.6 million for the strategy. The Public Legal Education Association of Saskatchewan (PLEA) has also received separate funding to set up a program that provides free legal advice to people who have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.
