Virtual Workshops for Outlook, PDFs and Excel Featuring Barron Henley – Sep 14 & 15th

September 8, 2021

From Law Society of Saskatchewan Admissions and Education Department

On the afternoons of September 14th and 15th, we’re excited to have Barron Henley join us once again to offer three excellent virtual workshops for lawyers and legal professionals.

Barron is one of the founding partners of Affinity Consulting Group, a legal technology consulting firm focused on automating and streamlining law firms and legal departments. He earned his J.D. from The Ohio State University and is a member of the American, Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations. Barron is a Fellow in the College of Law Practice Management, and a member of the ABA Law Practice Management Section.

Barron heads Affinity’s document assembly/automation and software training departments is a renowned expert and has authored legal-specific manuals on Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and HotDocs document assembly software. Barron is also an expert in launching new law firms, overhauling existing firms, and documenting and re-engineering law firm processes. Finally, Barron teaches continuing legal education classes throughout the U.S. and Canada covering a wide variety of topics related to law practice management, technology and ethics.

The Workshops

On September 14th we begin at 12:30 p.m., with Inbox Ninja. Following the 2:00 p.m. break, we return at 2:15 p.m. for A Lawyer’s Guide to PDF Files. On September 15th we continue with Microsoft Excel Power Tips for Legal Users, from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.

  • Inbox Ninja will show you how to use all of Microsoft Outlook’s features to efficiently store, organize, and successfully deal with high email volume and how to adjust Outlook’s default settings for email, calendar, contacts and tasks. Finally, we’ll explain many amazing and useful Outlook features which most users don’t even know are there.
  • A Lawyer’s Guide to PDF Files covers important topics such as redaction, metadata removal and electronic document security, Bates Numbering, splitting/combining PDFs, reducing file-size, reviewing/commenting and PDF collaboration, adding signatures & stamps, and more. Finally, we’ll identify other programs you can use for all these functions and explain their relative pros and cons.
  • Microsoft Excel Power Tips for Legal Users If you have Microsoft Office, then you have Excel. However, if you are like most lawyers, you’re either underutilizing Excel or not using it at all. In this seminar, we start with the basics and work our way up. You’ll learn powerful ways that Excel can improve your work product and make your life easier. Produce flawless fiduciary accountings, amortization schedules, real estate closing statements, disbursement schedules, and graphical representations of data (pie charts, bar graphs, etc.). You’ll also learn how to use Excel as a list manager and data source for mail merge functions.  We’ll also cover many useful formulas for use with dates, numbers, text and logic.

Offering this virtual workshop in Zoom Meeting gives attendees the opportunity to chat with Barron, and to work from their own computers; viewing with two monitors is highly recommended. The workshop is ideally suited for both lawyers and support staff, and we are encouraging both to attend by offering one free support staff registration when submitted together with a lawyer registration. LSS Member Registration is $400. Register here – CPD 304.

We look forward to seeing you there, and learning along with you!
