Shouted, Swore or Was Uncivil
A lawyer or limited licensee should provide courteous, thorough and prompt service to clients. This includes being civil.
See section 3.2-1 of the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Professional Conduct for Lawyers or the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Professional Conduct for Limited Licensees for more information.
There are situations where a lawyer or limited licensee may be required to be firm with a client. For example:
- disagreeing with the client’s perspective
- expressing concerns about a client’s position
- giving advice that the client does not want to hear
Firmness, without rudeness, is not a violation of the rules. The lawyer or limited licensee may have an animated discussion with the client. Consider the nature of the conversation and what the lawyer or limited licensee was conveying.
See section 3.2-1, commentary [3] of the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Professional Conduct for Lawyers or the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Professional Conduct for Limited Licensees for more information.
If you believe the lawyer or limited licensee shouted, swore or was uncivil, submit a complaint.
