Lawyer or Limited Licensee Will Not Provide Information About or Copy of Will
The obligation of a lawyer or limited licensee is to their client. This means the lawyer or limited licensee should only provide a copy or information about a Will to their client.
If the client is deceased:
- this obligation to keep information confidential remains in place
- the original Will should only be provided to the person with the proper authority, like the executor named in the Will
Once the executor has the original Will, copies can be obtained directly from the executor, or the executor can instruct the lawyer or limited licensee to provide copies of the Will.
If you believe the lawyer or limited licensee is inappropriately withholding a copy of the Will, submit a complaint.
