Pressuring Victim Not To Testify or Influencing Testimony
Defence counsel may not encourage or pressure a witness, including a victim, to:
- change or omit evidence;
- suppress evidence; or
- refrain from providing information to other parties in the matter.
At every stage of a proceeding, a witness should be free to provide relevant information voluntarily and without improper influence.
See section 5.4 of the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Professional Conduct for Lawyers or the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Professional Conduct for Limited Licensees for more information.
If you believe defence counsel is pressuring a victim not to testify or influencing their testimony, submit a complaint.
