Public Statement
Lawyers and limited licensees may speak with the media or make public statements.
The lawyer or limited licensee must keep in mind:
- Dealings with the media are still part of the lawyer or limited licensee’s professional work. There is no excuse for improper conduct, just because it didn’t happen inside the courtroom. See section 7.5-1, commentary [1] of the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Professional Conduct for Lawyers or the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Professional Conduct for Limited Licensees for more information.
- Lawyers and limited licensees should treat all with respect, integrity and courtesy.
- When they can, a lawyer or limited licensee should help people respect the law and try to make the justice system better.
Is your concern about a public statement a lawyer or limited licensee made about:
- a legal matter; or
- a non-legal matter?
