Opposing Party/Defendant
You are the ‘opposing party’ if your concern is about the lawyer or limited licensee who is representing a party who is on the other side of your non-criminal legal matter (for example, a family law matter, a small claims action, or a business dispute). In this circumstance, your concern is with ‘opposing counsel’.
You are the ‘defendant’ if your concern is about the lawyer who is representing the Crown in regard to a criminal matter against you. In this circumstance, your concern is with the ‘Crown prosecutor’.
