CPD On Demand FAQs

UPDATED (Mar 2021): Changes to CPD OnDemand starting January 4th, 2021

The pilot period for CPD OnDemand ended December 31st, 2020. As of January 2021, the Law Society made changes to the CPD OnDemand platform. Major changes to the platform are listed below:

Subscription Process

  • Starting in 2021, the process for payment and subscription to CPD OnDemand is fully completed through the Law Society’s website and connected to the user’s LSS account.
    • This is the same user account members currently use to access the Member Resource Section.
  • NOTE FOR PILOT PERIOD SUBSCRIBERS: Current pilot-period subscribers will not automatically see subscription information in their “My Account” section at the beginning of 2021. Upon completion of their individual pilot-period subscription term, subscribers may renew for the remainder of the 2021 calendar year subscription term for $349 + GST.

Subscription Length

  • The length of a subscription is a calendar year term, ending on December 31st of the year of purchase.
    • All subscriptions will be paused and require renewal on January 1st of the following year.
    • On January 1st of the following year term, a user’s subscription and access to CPD OnDemand will be paused until it is manually renewed by the user and paid for in the “My Account” section of the Law Society’s website.
    • Users have the option to toggle on automatic renewal in their My Account section for the subscription payment to automatically be charged on January 1st of the following year. This method will ensure no loss of access to CPD OnDemand.
    • The rationale behind this is that a subscription term will now be synced to the Law Society’s 1-year CPD reporting term.
    • Example: Regardless of whether a user purchases a subscription to CPD OnDemand in February or in September, their access to the platform will be paused on January 1st of the following year until they complete the manual re-subscription process.
      • If automatic renewal has been turned on, the subscription will not be paused, and payment will be automatically charged on January 1st for the following year’s term.
      • NOTE FOR PILOT PERIOD SUBSCRIBERS: The subscription length for any users who subscribed during the pilot period (May 25 – Dec 31, 2020) is a 365-day subscription from the date of purchase. Users who purchased during the pilot period will maintain access until the end of their unique subscription term, based on their individual date of purchase. See above details about pilot period subscribers renewing when their 365-day subscription expires.

      Subscription Price

      • The regular price for a CPD OnDemand subscription is $799.
      • NOTE FOR PILOT PERIOD SUBSCRIBERS: To thank them for their participation, pilot period subscribers may renew to the new calendar year subscription term when their 365-day subscription expires for $349 + GST.

      Visual Updates

      • The cover photos (which are the video screens before the video has been played) have been replaced with more visually pleasing designs that includes important information like the title and the CPD #.
      • The bulk of these changes were completed in the first months of 2021 and will be ongoing.
      • NOTE FOR PILOT PERIOD SUBSCRIBERS: No videos will be replaced or removed.

UPDATED (Mar 2021): Will CPD OnDemand be a new way for me to complete my CPD hours?

UPDATE: The CPD OnDemand pilot period ended December 31, 2021. CPD OnDemand is officially a regular offering of the Law Society’s CPD program.

      PILOT PERIOD LAUNCH:

In response to the COVID-19 situation and to recognize the financial hardship this pandemic is causing our members, the CPD Department is launching a streaming service pilot project. From the Law Society’s perspective, this is a creative opportunity to continue to fulfil our mandate to promote competence by offering a CPD option that is affordable, easily accessible and convenient for our members.

The Law Society will be collecting feedback during this pilot project to determine whether this platform is a beneficial service for members and whether it will be offered on a go-forward basis.

UPDATED (Mar 2021): What is the subscription price and what does it get me?

The regular price for a CPD OnDemand subscription is $799 in 2021. This all-access subscription provides members with a CPD option that is affordable and easily accessible at their convenience.

To view the platform, visit: https://ondemand.lawsociety.sk.ca.

The process for payment and subscription to CPD OnDemand is fully completed through the Law Society’s website and connected to the user’s LSS account. This is the same user account members currently use to access the Member Resource Section.

      NOTE FOR PILOT PERIOD SUBSCRIBERS:

      • Current pilot-period subscribers will not automatically see subscription information in their “My Account” section until they renew to the calendar year subscription term following their unique pilot period subscription term.
How long is a subscription term and do I need to re-purchase?

The length of a subscription is a calendar year term, ending on December 31st of the year of purchase. All subscriptions are paused and require renewal on January 1st of the following year. The rationale is that a subscription term is synced to the Law Society’s 1-year CPD reporting term.

      • On January 1st of the following year term, a user’s subscription and access to CPD OnDemand will be paused until it is manually renewed by the user and paid for in the “My Account” section of the Law Society’s website. Subscribers receive an invoice by email when the subscription expires, and the subscription is noted as pending until renewed or cancelled.

Example: Regardless of whether a user purchases a subscription to CPD OnDemand in February or in September, their access to the platform will be paused on January 1st of the following year until they complete the manual re-subscription process. If automatic renewal has been turned on, the subscription will not be paused, and payment will be automatically charged on January 1st for the following year’s term.

          What is CPD OnDemand?

CPD OnDemand is built on a platform called Vimeo OTT. Vimeo is currently the Law Society’s go-to solution for housing recorded CPD content and live-streaming events. Through this platform, users gain access to all content, which includes our catalogue of recorded webinars and seminars, by purchasing a calendar term subscription to the platform. The CPD OnDemand user interface and user experience are intuitive and simple and offers full Browse and Search functionality. All supporting materials and PowerPoint presentations associated with a program are accessible through the links included with the recording.

How do I report my CPD hours that I watch on CPD OnDemand?

Members will report their CPD hours for each activity in their Member Profile on the Law Society website, just as they do now. Programs watched will NOT be automatically populated in their Member Profile.

How many CPD hours can I get by watching videos on CPD OnDemand?

Members can accumulate all of their required CPD hours by using the CPD OnDemand platform. If they have watched a program, we hope they have learned from it and they can report CPD hours for that activity. The Law Society encourages members to watch as much CPD as possible to increase their professional competence.

Can I share my CPD OnDemand login?

A member’s login is unique to them. Any member wishing to utilize this platform and report CPD hours from the available content must purchase their own yearly subscription. The CPD Department will continue to conduct regular, random audits of CPD activities reported by members.

Does this give me access to any other CPD activities that the Law Society hosts?

The Law Society will continue to develop and deliver live CPD programming (priced at our standard registration rates). However, CPD OnDemand subscribers attend live webinars for free and receive $75 off registration fees for live in-person and virtual seminars. The website should show the subscriber discount in the ticket price and in the cart at checkout. Contact [email protected] if it does not.

Will all the Law Society’s upcoming CPD content be added to CPD OnDemand?

Webinars will be added to the CPD OnDemand catalogue in the days following the live webinar, unless the presenter requests the session not be recorded and/or shared on CPD OnDemand. There will be a 6-month delay in adding recordings of seminars to the CPD OnDemand catalogue. Obviously, any live activity that is not recorded cannot be added to the platform.
