Virtual Seminar – Drafting Proper and Persuasive Affidavits for Use in Civil Litigation: An Essential Skill (CPD 438)

November 19, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CST

$80.00 – $305.00

Qualifies for 2.75 CPD Hours.

In most cases, affidavits are the key documents relied upon in Chambers and other Court applications. They provide the factual basis to support, or respond to, an application. Preparing proper and persuasive affidavits is an essential skill for every litigator. Affidavits are the means by which each party can provide the evidence necessary to explain to the Court their position and perspective on the application. Done properly, affidavits will enhance the likelihood of a successful outcome for your client. Conversely, poorly crafted affidavits will have the opposite effect.

Join us to hear from a Court of King’s Bench Judge, an expert writer, and an experienced civil litigation lawyer about how you can enhance the likelihood of achieving a successful outcome for your client by preparing proper and persuasive affidavits. The panel will discuss:

  • The Court of King’s Bench Rules applicable to drafting proper affidavits;
  • Recent jurisprudence that addresses proper, and improper, affidavits; and
  • Tips for preparing cogent and effective affidavits, including:
    • How to take your legal writing skills to the next level;
    • Determining what to include, and not include, in an affidavit;
    • Formatting and structuring a persuasive affidavit, including exhibits; and
    • Adopting an effective style and tone in the affidavit.

Whether you are new to civil litigation or experienced, this webinar is sure to be informative and will help you improve your skills as an effective advocate.

Presenters:

  • The Honourable Justice Peter Bergbusch, Court of King’s Bench (Regina)
  • Jeff Grubb, K.C., Miller Thomson LLP (Regina)
  • Ryan Standil, Write to Excite (Toronto)
