CPD 261 – Child Protection Matters in the Era of Reconciliation

Recorded: 2020-04-19
Qualifies for 1 CPD Hour, all of which qualifies for Ethics.

Join Sheri Woods (Mokuruk & Woods Law Office) for this informative presentation
The Child and Family Services Act has not been substantively revisited in decades so it is no surprise that it has fallen out of line with current best practices and the truth and reconciliation commission’s Calls to Action dealing with child welfare matters. The Act has been subject to some Charter challenges to address some of these issues recently and this webinar will provide an overview of the basis for and the current status of some of those challenges. Additionally, the new federal legislation (An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Metis children youth and families) came into effect on January 1st, 2020 and webinar attendees can expect an overview of the legislation and how to rely on it in matters proceeding in Saskatchewan.
