The Board (Benchers) of the Law Society of Saskatchewan have acclaimed Laura Klemmer as Vice-President of the Law Society for 2026. James Fyfe, K.C. transitions from his current role as Vice-President to President in 2026.
James Fyfe, K.C.
James holds an LLB from the University of Saskatchewan and an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School. James has served on several Law Society committees since first being elected as a Bencher in 2021. His broader professional service includes roles with the Canadian Bar Association’s Federal Courts Bench and Bar Liaison Committee and the Aboriginal Law South (Saskatchewan) section. He has supported continuing legal education by being a frequent presenter on constitutional law topics. He also teaches a course on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms at the University of Regina.
Outside of the legal profession, James has served as Board President of the Autism Resource Centre in Regina and volunteered with the Regina Open Door Society’s Welcoming Committee for Refugees. He was appointed King’s Counsel in 2022 and awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2023.
Beyond his professional achievements, James is committed to community service, including past leadership as Board President of the Autism Resource Centre in Regina and volunteer involvement with the Regina Open Door Society’s Welcoming Committee for Refugees. Laura Klemmer
Laura was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 2009 and is currently Counsel at MLT Aikins LLP. She practices in the area of corporate/commercial law and was formerly a Director of Corporate Legal Services for a federal Crown lender where she provided strategic legal advice on complex transactions, litigation and execution of business objectives. She holds an LLB from the University of Windsor, and a JD from the University of Detroit Mercy, complemented by a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied Economics from Queen’s University.
Laura is a committed volunteer in both the legal community and with community-based organisations. She has served as a director of the Regina Bar Association, a council member of the Canadian Bar Association – Saskatchewan Branch, and a director of SOFIA House, a second-stage shelter supporting women and children escaping intimate partner violence.
The Law Society of Saskatchewan regulates the practice of law in the public interest and is governed by a Board (Benchers) composed of elected members of the Law Society and public representatives appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. The Law Society has approximately 2,100 active practicing members.
