Law Society of Saskatchewan DR UpdatesDR Updates Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Deadline

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Deadline

December 20, 2024

All Active members are required to accumulate and report a minimum of 12 CPD hours annually (two of which must qualify as ethics). The current CPD term is ending, and there continues to be a long list of members who have not reported their hours. Members must meet CPD requirements by December 31, 2024, to avoid the consequences of non-compliance, which may include a late reporting fee and disqualification.

Reporting is completed through Member Profile log in. We request your assistance in reporting as a sole practitioner or reminding members of your firm to report CPD hours if the minimum requirements have not been met.

Members can contact [email protected] for any issues or if there is an error in CPD hours or reported carryover. The Law Society is closed at 12:00 pm on December 24, 2024, reopening on January 2, 2025. Members who have not met the CPD requirements when the Law Society reopens in January may be subject to a late reporting fee and potential disqualification.

To meet the CPD requirements, members have the following options:

  1. Participate in qualifying CPD activities (in person or virtual) and report the hours. The CPD Policy permits a wide range of professional development opportunities offered by the Law Society and other education providers. Note that live programming is limited this late in the year.
  2. Subscribe to CPD OnDemand for access to all recorded versions of Law Society CPD programs, or purchase specific recorded versions from the Law Society’s Recorded Versions Shop, which houses hundreds of CPD programs available for purchase or, in some cases, available free of charge. Recorded versions must be viewed and reported prior to December 31, 2024.
  3. Submit a request for an “Out-of-Province Exemption” if the CPD hour requirement has been met in another Canadian jurisdiction that has sufficiently comparable CPD requirements. Send the request to [email protected] with confirmation of the completed CPD requirements from the other Canadian jurisdiction.

Members requiring additional time to complete CPD hours can submit a Remedial Continuing Professional Development Plan form (together with the prescribed fee of $500) for review and approval by the Director of Admissions and Education.
