Law Society of Saskatchewan Members Becoming a Lawyer in Saskatchewan Transfer Lawyers

Transfer Lawyers

The Law Society of Saskatchewan is a signatory to the National Mobility Agreement (2013) and the Territorial Mobility Agreement (2013), which have been signed by all jurisdictions. As a result, a lawyer who is a member of a law society in another Canadian jurisdiction may practice in Saskatchewan by:

  • Temporarily providing legal services  (refer to Law Society Rules 804-813).
  • Becoming a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan (transfer lawyer) (refer to Law Society Rules 814-816).
  • Applying for Admission as a Canadian Legal Advisor if you are a member of the Chambre des notaires du Québec, (refer to Law Society Rules 817-819)

The following steps are required to apply to become a transfer lawyer or a Canadian Legal Advisor in Saskatchewan:

  1. Complete Form A-11
  2. Provide a copy of certified government-issued photo identification such as driver’s license, passport or other document acceptable to the Society, verifying applicants identity.
  3. Provide Certificates of Standing from each law society or equivalent organization of which you are, or have been a member, sent directly from the regulatory body.
  4. Provide Proof of insurance or if you are exempt in your home jurisdiction, provide details of your exemption;
  5. Pay the Application fee of $300 + GST
  6. Purchase and read the Saskatchewan Reading Materials
  7. Provide a signed copy of the provided declaration that you have completed the Reading Materials

The application form and its related documents should be sent directly to our Membership Officer at [email protected]. After your application has been received, Cheryl Eberle will contact you to make payment by phone.

Law Society of Saskatchewan Reading Materials may be obtained in advance of the application being submitted by purchasing the materials directly from our shop.

*Please note, that foreign lawyers and students who hold law degrees from foreign law schools do not qualify for transfer under mobility agreements. Foreign applicants must first complete the requirements for students-at-law, located in the Applying for Admission as a Student-at-Law section.

Further information related to the various mobility agreements can be found at the Federation of Law Societies of Canada website.
