Help PREPare the lawyers of tomorrow – join the CPLED team!

November 13, 2019

From the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education

Think about a time early in your career – was there a particular coach or mentor who made a difference to you? The Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP) is your opportunity to make a difference to Articling students entering the Bar admission program in your area.

Over the past year, the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) has been on an exciting journey. Incorporating feedback and data from students, lawyers, other professionals and the latest educational practice, CPLED has sculpted a new type of Bar admission program to better reflect the legal landscape.

Built on best practices around the world, PREP delivers practical skills and competencies in an integrated approach that combines interactive, transactional learning and simulation within four distinct phases, each providing students with an opportunity to interact with lawyers, facilitators and even simulated clients to improve their competencies.

First, why join the team?

Why should you join the PREP team as a paid member of the program?

  • You’ll have an exciting position that allows you to give back to your professional community by helping to train the lawyers of tomorrow
  • You may qualify for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) with your Law Society
  • You can choose opportunities that best fit your schedule

What are the opportunities that qualify for CPD?

  • Foundation Module Facilitators – to provide support online as students work through the foundation modules.
  • Foundation Workshop Facilitators – guiding students through face-to-face workshops, providing oversight and leading group activities and discussions.
  • Practice Managers – lawyers who are assigned to provide students with coaching and mentorship as they move through the Virtual Law Firm practice rotations as well as reviewing assessments to provide further feedback and advice and focus on areas of improvement within the program.

Other opportunities:

  • Virtual Firm Assessors – lawyers with experience in the specific practice areas (criminal, family and business law) will provide feedback on assignments completed by students in the virtual law firm environment.
  • Simulated Clients – PREP’s simulated clients are real people who will interact with students throughout the program by playing specific roles in a number of scenarios and providing feedback to students afterwards.
  • Capstone Assessors – will mark assignments completed by students during the final phase of PREP, the Capstone session, a weeklong, face-to-face session where students will work through a simulated matter.

How can you get involved?

Find out more about the various opportunities and how to apply, visit CPLED’s website.
