CanLII’s new dark mode, a pathway to legal research abilities some consider to be unnatural
May 29, 2020“Dark modes” are becoming an increasingly common customization option for websites and apps and we’re happy to announce that CanLII deployed its own dark mode today. You will find the switch to “toggle” from the usual “light” mode to the dark mode (geekily named “DarkLII”) in the footer of any CanLII page.
“Dark modes” are alleged to save battery life (dark pixels don’t need as much power than bright white ones), minimize screen glare and save your eyes, especially when working late at night since staring at brightly lit white pixels may impact your sleep.
In the era of social distancing, you may be working more frequently at night when the kids are (finally) asleep, or from weird places in your house where you can’t plug your laptop. Who knows, with sunnier days ahead, you may even work from your backyard where glare and battery life might be issues.
Whatever your reason for crossing over to the dark side, we hope you will find it useful!
