News Release – Announcing the New President & Vice-President of the Law Society

The Law Society of Saskatchewan, at its December 2021 Convocation, elected James Korpan, Q.C. as President and John Morrall as Vice-President for 2022.

James Korpan, Q.C.
Mr. Korpan graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Law in 1992. He has spent his entire career with McDougall Gauley LLP (formerly McDougall Ready). James practices primarily in litigation with a focus on family and criminal law. He was elected as a Bencher in 2018 and has served on the Discipline Policy, Governance, Competency, and Future of Legal Services Committees, as well as in the role of a hearing officer. James and his family live in his hometown of Regina. He is active in the community, serving as President of the Regina Cycle Club and as a Regina Ski Club volunteer.

John Morrall
Mr. Morrall received his LLB from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 1992 with his B.A from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1993. After articling with Gauley and Company in Saskatoon, he spent three years with the Cherkewich, Yost and Heffernan Law firm before becoming a Crown Prosecutor with the Ministry of Justice in Prince Albert in 1997. He has remained in that role up until the present becoming the Associate Regional Crown at the Prince Albert office in 2014. He was first elected as a Bencher in 2018 and re-elected in 2021. He has served on the Ethics, Equity and Access, Governance and Q.C. Selection Committees, as well as the Model Code Subcommittee. He has also served as a hearing officer on several occasions. John is bilingual in French having lived in France for 2 years and attending the Saskatoon French school in his formative years. John, his wife Kim and their four children live busy lives in Prince Albert.

The Law Society of Saskatchewan regulates the legal profession which consists of over 2,000 lawyers actively practicing law in the province. It sets and enforces standards for the admission, competency and professional conduct of its members. The Society is governed by 23 Benchers, including individuals who are not lawyers.
