The Maintenance Enforcement Office (MEO) enforces child and spousal support provisions contained in court orders, agreements, and calculation, recalculation and arbitration decisions. To streamline the registration and enforcement process, the MEO reminds legal professionals and parties to ensure that supporting documents include complete and accurate information:
(a) Who is paying support? What is their annual income?
(b) Who is receiving support? What is their annual income, if applicable?
(c) Who the support is being paid for:
i. For child support, names and birth dates of the children.
ii. For spousal support, name of spouse for whom support is being paid.
For court orders, cite the legislation under which the order was made – either Divorce Act or The Family Maintenance Act. Requirements for what must be included in child support orders are found in Rule 15-97 of The King’s Bench Rules.
