Statement Regarding the Kamloops Residential School
June 4, 2021
The Law Society of Saskatchewan joins with Canadians and people from around the world as we observe and mourn the most recent discovery of 215 unmarked graves of Indigenous children on the grounds of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. In doing so we also acknowledge and remember the tragic legacy of residential schools in Saskatchewan and the ongoing, generational trauma inflicted on survivors, families and Indigenous communities, as a whole. Ongoing efforts to know, understand and address the reality of residential schools are necessary as we search for truth and healing.
