CanLII Is Now Accepting Book Proposals

May 4, 2020

For some time now, we have been partnering to make existing content available on CanLII, and we are grateful for how the community has embraced that work. Now, we are launching a house publishing program and inviting submissions that strategically meet the needs of researchers on CanLII.

It has been two years since we launched law reviews on CanLII, and eight since we launched the collaboration with Lancaster House to make eText on Wrongful Dismissal and Employment Law available on CanLII. We’re working to make more existing publications accessible on our platform, and as you can see, it’s going pretty well. We have also dabbled in publishing original content.

Now that you have a better idea of what we are building, we would like to invite you to submit your book proposals to be published under our house publishing program. With it we will aim to create content that strategically meets the needs of the researchers who use CanLII.

We would like to see the following types of content:

  • Legal texts on the core areas of law with a special focus on topics with the largest practicing bars and numbers of people affected, for example family and criminal law
  • Shorter pieces of 3 pages or more that answer particular questions that can be written and published quickly to get timely information to users
  • Practice manuals that will help the legal profession and the public navigate particular areas of law better

This is your chance to have a title out there with your name on it that will share your expertise with the community. If you ever imagined seeing a publication with *YOUR NAME* on *YOUR AREA OF EXPERTISE*, this is your opportunity.

We have limited ability to manage a large number of publications, but even if your title doesn’t fit with our program we will see what we can do to help you find others who can help make this work for you.

(We also have capacity to publish content you have already written. If you have presented at a CPD session, written a law review article, or just don’t want to wait for publication schedules to get your work into readers hands, please consider the CanLII Authors Program.)

For more information, please contact Alisa Lazear ([email protected]) or Sarah Sutherland ([email protected]).
